At the heart of Long Hill Township is the Stirling Strip containing many of the previously mentioned resutrants including the Stirling Hotel, Biagios, among many others. The Great Swamp
The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is one of more than 560 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System that is administered by the Department of the Interior's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Great Swamp is here to conserve its natural resources for the America public while protecting threatened and endangered species for future generations. The National Wildlife Refuge System is a network of lands and waters managed specifically for the protection of wildlife and its habitat. It represents the most comprehensive wildlife management program in the world.
The Enviornmental Education Center
The Environmental Education Center (EEC) at Lord Stirling Park offers approximately 9 miles of hiking trails, Naturalist led programs, school field trips, fun festivals, nature themed exhibits, facility and classroom rentals, a resource library, science and conservation research, and more. Our goal is to improve environmental literacy in Somerset County and beyond.
The Great Swamp Experience opened in February 2017 and is a permanent, interactive, educational exhibit located downstairs in the EEC. The exhibit highlights historical and ecological information about the Great Swamp. Children can crawl into a beaver lodge, feel animal fur, or explore the toddler area. Adults can enjoy viewing habitat vignettes, archeological artifacts, and learning about hydrology, sustainability, and the park's geographic location.
The Raptor Trust
The Raptor Trust has provided free medical care to all species of wild birds since 1983. The Trust has a fully equipped medical infirmary, including an intensive care wing. The Raptor Trust provides care for approximately 50% of all birds and 25% of all wildlife admitted to rehabilitation centers in New Jersey. The number of birds we admit each year has increased from 2,000 in 1990 to over 6,000 in 2018.
